Cuffing season is approaching yall and if you’re not familiar with cuffing season Urban dictionary describes it as “During the Fall and Winter months people who would normally rather be single or promiscuous find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be “Cuffed” or tied down by a serious relationship.” The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate to be cuffed.” I describe it as a time during the fall and winter months where people with attachment issues get to pretend to fall in love.
This got me thinking about why we as humans fall in love in the first place and why the colder months bring fake love to us (Drake voice). Let’s get into it yall:
We all know there’s no true formula to love or else we would have all had our episode of BrideZilla, am I right ladies? However, scientists break down falling in love into 3 phases, lust, attraction, and attachment. Each phase comes with its own set of chemicals that tell us we made the best choice when we swiped right.
1. Lust is controlled by estrogen and testosterone
2. Attraction is controlled by dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin
3. Attachment is controlled by oxytocin and vasopressin
I love a good Ted Talk, don’t you? Check out this queen, Helen Fisher, teaching us about the brain on love.
So now we know what the formula for love is and why we fall in love right? Now let’s look at cuffing season.
In my opinion its all in the cuddle. Humans like to cuddle yall! Some people are even paying someone else to cuddle them. Cuddling feed us dopamine too just like phase 2 of the formula or love. Fall and winter months make people want to cozy up next to someone they care about because you get twice as much dopamine! I won’t get into the science of cuddling but you can check that out HERE and also check out the video below for more cuddle action.
Thanks for reading guys! Did anyone get my Fall reference? Why do we Fall in love? Get it? Fall? Well anyways lol, leave me comments! Talk to your girl!
