My Tarot Journal: Episode 001

Hello everyone! So for the next few months my tarot posts will be about my current journey with the tarot. This is unrelated to the Taror 101 posts, this is strictly personal. I may not even promote these posts, they will be more of a public tarot journal for me. If you are interested in checking these out and want to follow my journey with the tarot, keep watching. I’m not sure why I’m calling it episodes lol it just sounds cool so I’m rolling with it. Here we go yall, episode one.

I decided to go ALL the way back to the basics and get the Rider Waite Smith deck. Although the deck that I’ve been using, Tarot Apokolypsis by Kim Huggens is a “clone” of the RWS and has lots of the symbolisms associated with it, I figured I would just use the classic as I continue to study. Another reason that I wanted to get the RWS deck is due to me reading more about the deck’s illustrator Pamela Colman Smith’s story. Someone on Instagram said that the way I read reminded them of her and I was truly truly embarassed that I didn’t really know who she was. So the millenial in me hit the googles and found out that she is a very very interesting woman who I relate to a lot and want to learn more about. There’s a book out about her life called Pamela Colman Smith: The Untold Story. I hope to purchase this book before the month is over.

I signed up for a free course on Intuitive Tarot readings by Mamta of the Soul Truth Gateway. So far I’m really enjoying her way of teaching. It’s almost like a one bite course at a fine dining restaurant, lots of flavor in an easy to digest format. So far I’m on my first day of the course which covers the 3 keys of reading intuitively, the Major Arcana, and the element and chakras associated with the Major Arcana. I’m keeping a physical journal as I go through this course and out of respect for Mamta’s hard work put into this course I’ll only give you guys a few snippets of what I’ve learned on my first day.

“The Fool, #0, represents the beginning of a journey. In his journey through all the numbered cards 1-21, he learns the lesson each one has to teach, and gains enlightenment by the time he reaches card 21, The World”

“If the Major Arcana were a physical place, it would be the realm of gods and heroes” I really really like that quote. It painted a vivid picture for me to link to the Major Arcana cards because I love super heroes (Batman’s my favorite).

Along with the RWS deck, I bought The Ultimate Guide to the Rider Waite Tarot by Johannes Fielbig & Evelin Burger. I would describe this book as a tarot nerd’s dream. The book breaks down all 78 cards in the deck, as well as important symbols of each card that will help you to read into the cards meanings. They even include ways to interpret the cards in given situations, spreads to use, and books for further reading.

My Goals For Tarot

My goal for learning tarot is to help people first and foremost. People often come to me for advice or for someone to confide in. I love being that person for people and I feel like the Tarot could elevate that aspect of my life. I also want to strengthen my own intution and be more in touch with my higher self. Tarot in my mind is also very much like learning another language with 78 letters that all make 6 different sounds. Thats how I think of it and I don’t get overwhelmed.

This concludes the first episode of my Tarot Journey. If you’re reading this thanks! I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do this but one of the most important things for me lately is to trust my gut and do what feels right. This felt right whether anyone read it or not. Before I close out I want to say one more thing: Thank you to my family for not being weird about this. Not that we are an overly religious family but I know that a lot of people that read the tarot have issues with their family and their familes belief. It’s not really surprising to me that my family was cool with it, mostly because I’ve always been the “free spirit wild child” that goes skydiving and moves to a big city with $300 in her pocket. I appreciate their (especially my mama) unravering support of all my dreams and passions.

Enjoyed reading this, I find tarot cards really interesting. I’ve never really looked into them before but I’ve always been fond of those that use them and can understand them, it’s a pretty cool thing! I hope you enjoy your course! 🙂
